Kawasaki's color is green, so the surprise here is the ground: white, with the green K, Kawasaki Racing, and TEAM set in a shredded tire-tread type. Read the chest again and a second brand turns up — ANSWER C·III beside the K, ANSWER RACING running down both sleeves. Answer was started in 1976 by Eddie Cole, a former Kawasaki and Bultaco factory rider, with partner Fred Hoblit, and for its first six years it sold hard parts; the gear business only began in 1982, after which Johnny O'Mara, Mark Barnett, Bob Hannah and Micky Dymond all raced in it. A jersey like this is the two halves of that story printed on top of each other: an ex-factory rider's company dressing the team he used to ride for. Kawasaki's own amateur program, Team Green, had debuted at Ponca City in 1981 under Dave Jordan and took thirteen NMA World Mini GP titles in its first year — the machine that turned green into a thing kids aspired to wear.
