The McCallum Quad was designed by Jeff McCallum to compliment the round pin quads he has been shaping for years.
The McCallum Quad was designed by Jeff McCallum to compliment the round pin quads he has been shaping for years. The elongated rake combined with a flat inside foil gives these fins effortless drive and instant release.
Elongated rake plus a flat inside foil give it strong drive off the bottom and instant release when you want to break the tail free, and flat foils across all four fins make for lightning-quick direction changes.
A snappier feel at a slight loss of drive — fine in decent surf.
Run it on a pulled-in fish or round-pin quad in waves with some push, when you want snappy, off-the-rail surfing and release on tap for a vertical hit or tight top turn. It rewards a back-foot rider who wants the tail to respond instantly; if you want hold through long carves or an easier-flowing all-rounder, look to the Mackie Quad or Mandala AK4 instead.
The McCallum Quad is a four-fin set designed by Jeff McCallum to complement the round-pin quads he has shaped for years, made by True Ames in solid fiberglass and Futures compatible. The template combines elongated rake with flat inside foils, and all four fins are flat-foiled. It is intended for pulled-in fish and round-pin quad surfboards.
The Mackie Quad's wide base and heavy rake favor hold and long carves, where the McCallum is the snappier, more release-oriented set.
The AK4 favors effortless flow and drawn-out drive, which the McCallum trades for sharper, more vertical response.
