The Details
The early-90s licensed sports tee had one great gimmick and this is it: lightning. Bolts crawl out of the front graphic, over both shoulders, down the sleeves and across the back, where they take over completely — a black field with a single small helmet at the collar and a storm branching out beneath it, no wordmark, no numbers. The front keeps the orthodox layout: MIAMI in silver and orange above DOLPHINS in gold, wrapped around the leaping dolphin in its M-marked helmet, the sunburst mark the franchise carried from 1966 until a 1997 redraw darkened the fish and gave it a game face. A TM/© NFLP line — NFL Properties, the league's licensing arm — is printed under the graphic, though the year digit has worn illegible. Teal, gold, a thunderstorm across the shoulders: merchandise that had stopped wanting to be a logo on a shirt and started wanting to be a poster.
