A hard plastic surf wax comb from Rage, with a toothed edge for roughing up old wax and a straight edge for scraping it off.
One side is a row of pointed teeth, the other a sharp straight edge. The teeth cut a cross-hatch into a wax coat that has gone slick, which brings the grip back without a fresh bar; the flat edge strips the whole coat when it is time to start over. Small enough to live in a board bag, a wetsuit sleeve or the glovebox. It is the cheap tool that keeps a good wax job usable for weeks longer than it otherwise would be.
Drag the toothed edge across the deck in both directions to score the wax before a session. When the coat is packed with sand and grit, warm the board in the sun and push the straight edge along the deck to lift it off, then re-wax from bare foam or glass.
