Sade Adu fronts a band called Sade, which is why the Grammy "No Ordinary Love" won in 1994 was for a duo or group. The song came off Love Deluxe in 1992 and got a Sophie Muller video in which Adu is a mermaid who walks ashore in a wedding dress looking for a lost sailor; that gold-lit imagery is what both sides work from. The back frames a kneeling gold-toned figure with the title in pink and "I gave you all the love I got / I gave you all that I have inside" running up the sides like a border. The front pairs the Stüssy scrawl — Shawn Stussy's signature, first drawn on surfboards with a broad marker outside Laguna Beach — with a speech bubble quoting "Smooth Operator" from 1984: move in space with minimum waste and maximum joy. Portrait, lyrics as frame, brand mark up top: the grammar of the bootleg music tee, aimed at the most composed singer of the era. The neck tag is a woven Stüssy label reading MADE IN U.S.A.
