Close base-to-height ratio and moderate rake.
Close base-to-height ratio and moderate rake. An all time favorite. A great fin for ythe all-around shortboard. These fins excel in the ripable waves of Trestles.
(3 Fin Set) Futures Compatible
An all-around shortboard fin that excels in the ripable waves of Trestles.
The set you reach for when you want drive off the bottom and hold through a turn in good waves rather than a loose, skatey feel; it stays connected when the wave stands up. If you want a livelier, more release-oriented top turn, look to a flatter-foiled thruster instead.
Thruster set designed by shaper Timmy Patterson and built by True Ames, with a close base-to-height ratio and moderate rake. It is sold as a three-fin set and offered in solid fiberglass and Hexcore constructions with both Futures and FCS bases. It is intended for performance shortboards.
The review says the True Ames Thruster's flat inside foil is tuned for a controlled, predictable release off the top, where the Patterson set leans more toward hold and connection through the turn.
The review names the Patterson Quad as the four-fin companion with the same all-around intent and more down-the-line speed.
