Introducing the V-Raked fin, a design by Tristan Mausse, the shaper behind the Fantastic Acid label.
Volan fins flex more from the body of the fin, which produces increased speed and projection off the bottom and through turns. On a hull, that body flex is exactly what loads up and springs you down the line.
The V-Raked design pays homage to the Wave Set fins of the 60s, and the partnership with Fantastic Acid was meant to give his epic hull shapes the volan fins they deserve.
Run it on a displacement hull, vee-bottom, or sensitive log where you want smooth, springy, drawn-out drive down the line rather than tight pivots off the tail. For planted noseriding on a heavy log the D-2 is the move instead.
The Fantastic Acid Vee Bottom is a V-raked single fin designed by Tristan Mausse of Fantastic Acid, who builds displacement hulls under that label, and made by True Ames in volan construction. The outline references the Wave Set fins of the 1960s with an updated foil and flex. Volan is a heavier, denser weave than standard fiberglass that flexes from the body of the fin. It is intended for displacement hulls, vee-bottom and transition-era boards, and more sensitive logs.
