Larry Gephart finally gave the greenlight to make some solid fiberglass Gephart #2 fins for Futures boxes (which has been a customer request for quite some time).
Larry Gephart finally gave the greenlight to make some solid fiberglass Gephart #2 fins for Futures boxes (which has been a customer request for quite some time). True Ames did the best to keep the template true to form and gave them the classic 50/50 foils which match the original marine ply fins. These fins have 4 degrees of cant.
A touch more progressive than the #1: where the #1 runs a straight back, the #2 carries a minimal amount of relief in the trailing edge, generating speed off the keel rather than pivoting off a tip.
Run the Gephart #2 Keels on a Lis-style fish or wide-tailed keel twin when you want traditional down-the-line speed and glide with a slightly looser tail than a straight-backed keel. If you want the most-classic straight-backed feel, the original Gephart template is the one — this set prizes glide over snap, not performance pivot.
The Gephart #2 Keels are a twin-keel set from Larry Gephart's San Diego template library, made by True Ames in solid fiberglass with Futures-compatible bases. The #2 differs from the straight-backed #1 template by carrying a minimal amount of relief in the trailing edge. The set is intended for Lis-style fishes and wide-tailed keel twins.
The original straight-backed Gephart template, named as the choice for the most-classic keel feel.
Compared as a different keel character with the same down-the-line, glide-over-snap priority.
Contrasted as the performance-pivot direction, where the Gephart is far more about keel glide.
