Three fins in solid fiberglass, FCS compatible, in smoke, clear or kelp. The set pairs with asymmetrical boards built for REGULAR foot surfers, which means each rail gets different fins: a small keel on the toe side, and a two-fin quad setup on the heel side. Lovelace drew it as a friendly, well-rounded asym set rather than a specialised one, so it asks nothing unusual of whoever is riding it.
The toe-side keel has base under it, so that rail drives and projects; because the keel is small, it will still pivot vertically off the bottom instead of locking into one long arc. The heel side, split into two fins, behaves like a quad β it releases and re-engages, which is what a clean cutback and a quick redirection both need. One rail set up to drive, the other set up to turn back.
Regular-foot surfers on asymmetrical boards with FCS plugs β the boards this set was drawn around. Goofy-footers need the mirrored set, not this one. Riders curious about asym who want a set that works straight away rather than one demanding a particular technique to get anything out of it.
Riding Futures boxes instead? The Lovelace Asymmetrical Regular - Futures Compatible (Solid Fiberglass).
Your backhand and your forehand load a board differently, so the two rails get different fins: the toe-side keel gives drive and projection while still letting you pivot vertically off the bottom, and the heel-side quad arrangement is tuned for seamless redirections and clean carves on your backhand.
Buy this only if you are on a regular-foot asymmetrical board built for it β there it makes the board feel balanced under both feet rather than strong one way and vague the other. Know that the solid keel template runs stiff, leaning toward drive and projection over snappy vertical pivot, and on a standard symmetrical twin or fish it is simply the wrong fin.
Ryan Lovelace's asymmetrical fin set for regular-foot surfers, made by True Ames in FCS-compatible solid fiberglass. The set places a small keel on the toe-side rail and a quad cluster on the heel side, and pairs with asymmetrical boards designed for a regular stance. A mirrored Goofy version is made for goofy-foot asym boards.
