The Fin
Ryan Lovelace's canard pair — the lead fins of a twinzer, cut to pair with his twinzer rear fin — made by True Ames for FCS boxes.
A pair in solid fiberglass, FCS compatible, in smoke, with 0°, 4° or 9° of cant chosen at checkout. They were drawn specifically to run in front of the Lovelace twinzer rear fin: placed just forward of the twins and set outboard toward the rail. The inside foil is flat. Small as the template is, it is not tied to one layout — the pair works in a number of combinations across different shapes and board sizes.
How that reads
Two small fins ahead of the twins put bite in the water where the rail engages first, so a turn starts earlier and the fins behind them keep working further through it. Because that area sits forward of the feet, none of it stiffens the tail and the board still releases. Cant sets how upright the pair stands: flat drives straight ahead, and more angle trades some of that drive for lift as the board goes on rail.
Who it suits
Twinzer boards with FCS plugs, and above all the Lovelace twinzer rears these were cut to match. Surfers who like a twin's looseness but want more to hold on to when the wave stands up. The cant choice is the tuning: less of it for drive, more of it for lift through the turn.

Designed for the oddball placement on the FM model, set over two inches off the rail and nearly parallel, with considerably more surface area than most canards carry. The point is control without giving up the looseness that pulled you to a twin in the first place.
Our take
Buy these to complete a Lovelace Twinzer on a board with the four boxes to run them, ideally an FM-range mid-length where the placement was already figured out. They are a pairing fin, not a universal add-on; on a standard twin, the full FM Twinzer set is the cleaner answer than retrofitting canards into boxes that were never spaced for them.
More About This Fin
These are Ryan Lovelace's canard fins, made by True Ames in FCS-compatible solid fiberglass. They are small leading fins with a flat inside foil that mount ahead of and outside the main twins in a Twinzer setup. They were designed for the placement on Lovelace's FM model, set over two inches off the rail and nearly parallel, with more area than most canards, and can be run at multiple cant settings.
