The Fin
Ryan Burch's Rakey Twin: an elongated, raked template laid up in white-tinted volan so the fin flexes.
Two things are doing the work here, and Burch chose both. The template is drawn long and swept back rather than upright, and the panel is volan fiberglass tinted white, which flexes noticeably more than the solid glass True Ames uses for most twins. Flat inside foil, Futures bases, sold as a pair.
How that reads
Rake is what draws a turn out and pushes the board down the line, so a raked template on its own would trade release for projection. The volan is what buys the release back: a fin that bends under load and springs out of it keeps the tail live off the top instead of locking it in. That combination — projection down the line without losing the ability to come off the top — is the whole point of the fin.
Who it suits
Shortboard-scale twins surfed with speed in mind, and riders who have found stiff solid-glass twins too rigid off the top. If you want the tail to feel firm and predictable under weight, solid fiberglass is the construction to stay with.

Our take
On a twin fish or Burch-style experimental board this generates a ton of down-the-line speed and then springs through turns, the pick if you want the board to feel alive and fast rather than planted. If you want a stiffer, more direct twin go Mandala Delta-V; for keel glide instead of raked twin spring, the Lovelace Piggyback Keel is the move.
More About This Fin
The Rakey Twin is an elongated, heavily raked twin template designed by Ryan Burch and made by True Ames in white-tinted Volan cloth with a flat foil and a wide base. The Volan weave flexes through the body and trunk of the fin rather than just the tip, making it the most flexible twin in the True Ames line. It has Futures-compatible bases and is sold as a twin set for twin fish and Burch-style asymmetric or experimental boards.
