The template for this fin, designed by legendary shaper Renny Yater, had been tucked away in our archives for decades until recently. Because its design remains as relevant today as it was 50+ years ago, we decided it was time to share its magic with the surf community at large, and we're sure glad we did. Since its re-release in 2018, the Yater Apocalypse has become a fast favorite of not only many of our customers, but also of many of the best longboarders in the world. This iconic fin features the timeless simplicity, classic curves, and straight-forward functionality that Yater is so well known for. Its design inherently complements so many aspects of longboarding–providing plenty of hold, pivot, and drive. A fin with true versatility, we recommend the Yater Apocalypse for surfers with all ranges of experience. In addition to celebrating this fin for its performance, we’re also excited about its heritage and historical relevance. The Yater Apocalypse fin template is the same as the original which was glassed-on to the surfboard that Yater was commissioned to shape in the early ’60s by screenwriter John Milius for the critically acclaimed film, Apocalypse Now . Put it on a traditional log you want to noseride, pivot, and trim without overthinking it, sizing up to the 10 inch for bigger boards and more hold. It's the no-gimmick all-rounder; go Velzy Noserider if you want pure tip time, or the Wayne Rich Highliner if you want volan flex and projection.

The Yater Apocalypse is a classic longboard single fin from shaper Renny Yater, foiled by True Ames in solid fiberglass and offered in 9.5" and 10.0" sizes. The template is the same one Yater glassed onto a board he was commissioned to shape in the early 1960s for screenwriter John Milius, tied to Apocalypse Now. True Ames kept the outline in its archive for decades before re-releasing it in 2018, and it fits a traditional single-box log.
