Disney bought Pooh in June 1961 — film rights from A. A. Milne's widow Dorothy, television and merchandising from Shirley Slesinger Lasswell — dropped the hyphens out of Winnie-the-Pooh and took Slesinger's red-shirted bear over E. H. Shepard's. Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree followed in 1966, the only one Walt Disney lived to see, and he is the man quoted here under his own signature: WHY WORRY? If you've done the very best you can, worrying won't make it better. The line usually runs on — "I worry about many things, but not about water over the dam" — and, like most Disney quotations, circulates without a primary source anyone can point to. The art makes the better argument anyway: Piglet and Pooh attending to Eeyore, who arrived in Milne's 1926 book as a grey donkey in a corner of the forest marked Eeyore's Gloomy Place: Rather Boggy and Sad. Pooh is Disney's second best-selling character after Mickey. Back print: the castle logo. Neck tag: Disney.
