8" (203mm) of fibreglass in sunflower, on a base for US fin boxes, with a 50/50 foil. Wild Things Gallery puts it plainly: if you could only have one fin, this would be it. Balanced and versatile, and at its best in the pocket where speed and control are wanted at the same moment. The swept outline and tapered tip place drive, hold and release where a critical turn asks for them. It has been tested across a wide variety of boards and tail shapes.
A 50/50 foil is symmetrical, the same curve on both faces, which is what a centre fin wants because water meets it from both sides through a turn. The sweep in the outline carries the tip back behind the base, so hold builds through the arc and gives way at the end of it rather than all at once. The taper takes area out of the tip, and the tip is the part that decides how abruptly that release arrives.
Single-fin boards sized to 8" of fin β match fin height to board length and tail width rather than to habit, and the result is usually right. Best for surfers who want one fin that does everything well enough to leave in, and that still holds together when the wave turns critical.
