The Fin

The Wild Things Speed Fin at 8.5" — a solid fiberglass single fin for a single or longboard box.

The Speed Fin is Wild Things Gallery's all-round single-fin template: a classic outline with a modern flex pattern, drawn for speed and drive rather than pivot alone. At 8.5" the fin is tall enough to give the tail something to hold with and short enough that the board still turns off it — the height a single fin usually lands on when the board is meant to trim and still be taken somewhere off the top.

How that reads

Height is what a single fin trades in. More of it means more hold: the tail stays where it is put and the board tracks through a long turn instead of stepping out of it. Less of it means the board pivots more freely off the tail and asks more of the back foot. The classic outline keeps that pivot available, and the flex pattern is where the drive comes from, loading through the turn and releasing as the board comes out of it.

Who it suits

Single-fin boards in the middle of the range — mid-lengths, eggs, shorter logs — where a full-height longboard fin would be too much and a short one would leave the tail loose. Match fin height to board length and tail width, and 8.5" is a sensible place to start for boards of that size.
