Before technical fabrics there was the hole. An open-weave mesh jersey was how motocross dealt with a sport that is full-body exertion in full-coverage kit: knit the body loose enough to breathe, then back the shoulders and underarms with solid panels where roost lands and the stitching takes the strain. That is exactly the build here β yellow mesh body, black yoke across both shoulders and down the underarms, black ribbed cuffs, a mock collar. YAMAHA sits across the chest in red block capitals outlined in black, flanked by a red bar over a black bar on each side, and the same red lettering runs down both sleeves inside long arrow-shaped panels. Red against the yellow-and- black is the loud reading of the livery Rollin "Molly" Sanders gave Yamaha in 1972, the one the paddock nicknamed the bumblebee. The back carries the same black yoke and sleeve arrows and nothing else.
Vintage Yamaha mesh motocross jersey in yellow. Red YAMAHA across the chest, black yoke and cuffs β the open-mesh 1970s factory style.
