Yellow and black belong to Yamaha in America because of one consultant and three riders. Rollin "Molly" Sanders drew the pattern in 1972 β a yellow ground carrying evenly spaced black blocks on a white stripe, first called the chain block and later the speed block, raked forward on the bodywork to imply motion and left upright on the riders. Paddocks called it the bumblebee. Kenny Roberts, Pierre Karsmakers and Bob "Hurricane" Hannah then spent a decade making it mean something: Hannah alone took the AMA Supercross title in 1977, 1978 and 1979. Here the identity arrives with the blocks taken out of it. Yellow body, black ribbed collar and cuffs, two thin black stripes running the length of each sleeve, YAMAHA across the chest in plain black capitals, and a completely empty back. No sponsor panel, no number board, no graphics package β the version that reads as a factory team from across a field on color alone.
Vintage Yamaha motocross jersey in yellow. Black YAMAHA chest print, black shoulder stripes and ribbed black cuffs β the plain 1970s factory-style jersey.
